Plaza Cutlery Custom Knife Show

Saturday October 4, 2008

UPDATE  8/4/2008 Exhibitors List has changed and rates

Keep Saturday October 4th open of 2008 open to attend the show!

"Evening of the Cutlery Arts" will be Friday October the 3rd form 5PM to 9:30PM
This is a lot of fun and worth the trip! So many great knives and people! See additional page for information!

"Plaza Cutlery Custom Knife Show" will be held Saturday October 4Th form 10AM to 4PM in the "Catalina Ballroom"

We are going home!!!!

Our NEW location this year is the Costa Mesa Hilton which is the hotel I had the "California Custom Knife Show" at for a number of years when it was a Red Lion, then a Double Tree. Blade West was also held here for a number of years. The hotel has changed over the years and we have a similar set up as we did in Huntington Beach with outdoor balconies. The show will be in the new Catalina Ballroom on the lobby floor and not in the basement exhibit rooms. Same format as past shows but the show will be in the same room both days. Makers will have the option to move their table out side on the balcony if they want to.

The reason for the move was Costa Mesa would book the show dates now and with Chicago and New York before and just after our show, Huntington Beach may not have dates available and could cause conflicts with these two shows. Huntington Beach did not want to lock in dates till October as they may get something bigger. Also room rates are only $129 for a large room and there is a free shuttle form the Orange County Airport to the Costa Mesa Hilton so it makes it much easier to get to as it is only 10 minutes away from the airport. So easy to fly on and out of. It also runs all the time and will not change the program as the Huntington Beach Hilton did on us. It is also located just off the 405 freeway across the street and freeway form "South Coast Plaza" where Plaza Cutlery is located. South Coast Plaza is an international shopping center with all the big name stores and flagship stores for many top cloth designers as well as Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Saks and Macy's. There are plenty of restaurants close by, the "Orange County Performing Arts" theater is also just down the street for Broadway type shows and the new concert hall which I have not been to yet. These are state of the art performance centers and rated amongst the highest in the world. The beach's are still only 15 minutes away. To many advantages plus they really wanted the show which means a lot.

Payment is at the door and is $15 per-person. Cash only no credit cards or checks.

Parking, there is a reduced rate ask a the show and should be about $7 my best guess.

Thank you!

General information

Information will change for 2008!

For those of you who have never attended a "Custom Knife Show" you are in for a treat. This will be the opportunity to meet some of the worlds finest craftsman. The knife being one of the oldest tools known to man has developed from a sharp edge on a rock to a high-tech fine molecular structured piece of steel and also none steel edge. At the show you will see finely crafted gentleman and ladies pocket knives with inlays of pearl, jade, gold and other fine materials. You will also see hand forged blades pounded to shape, both historical and modern styles. The knife in the show flyer and news paper ad is an early San Francisco style knife which were made during the California gold rush.

There will also be knifemakers who make traditional pocket knives with multi blades again both historical and modern styles. Also there are some makers who make knives for our men in the military so there will be tactical folding and fixed blades.

All these knife makers are small one man shops. In some cases they may have an apprentice or another family member who also works with them. The exception is Chris Reeve who does make knives on his own, but also has a small company that makes very high quality knives that very much sought after. Each maker has a story to tell and all of them come from different back grounds. Some are former military, a minister, teachers and you get the idea. They all love the craftsmanship that goes into knife making and after you meet them you will appreciate what they do.

    We hope you can attend!

Details:

This will be a very different show. It is only a one-day show, Saturday October 7TH starting at 10AM and concluding at about 4PM. All makers will have knives for sale at the beginning of the show so everyone will have a chance to purchase a knife. Makers who sell out the first few minutes of a show will have a lottery so everyone has an equal chance to buy one of their knives! These are 39 of the most sought after knifemakers in the world. You will not normally find this many at one show. Each of them is among the best in the world for their style of knife making. “Art Knives”, “Tactical”, “Historical”, “Multi-Blade”, “Hunting”, “Hand Forged” are all represented here! Remember this show will only be held every two years so make sure to keep this day open!

Admission was $??.00 per person

Admission can only be purchased at the door unless you are also attending the "Evening of the Cutlery Arts Show" which is the night before. That admission includes both shows!
